Mishandling can damage the CI/DI pipes, especially the protective coating, internal cement lining and may also damage the jointing surfaces/flanges.
Mobile cranes shall be used for unloading and stacking the pipes. The hooks to be used to lift the pipes should be wrapped with rubber pad, layers of cycle tyre/tube/jute/cotton to avoid cement lining chip off at the ends
Where cranes are not available and if the sizes of the pipes are within 250mm, individual pipes shall be off-loaded manually with precautions by using timber skids, tyres. Do not drag the pipe from truck and instead lift manually and move towards back end of the truck. Allow one end to fall slowly by manual support on the tyre, which is placed on the ground to prevent fall in excessive speed. Then forward the pipe manually to the ground and place the other end over the tyre. Take away the pipe for stacking. Never allow subsequent pipes to fall on already unloaded pipes for manual support Rope/ Bamboo sticks may be used.
The following steps are recommended during unloading and stacking.
- Ensure that the storage area is levelled. Avoid stacking at marshy ground and unstable ground.
- Avoid placing pipes on large stones or leaving them unbalanced.
- Do not drag the pipes during unloading from the truck or on the ground to avoid damage to external coating
Do not allow the pipes to fall down
